Nursery Prospectus

The Roche School is a co-educational, independent primary and nursery school founded in 1983. It has some 320 pupils aged 2 to 11 years, with roughly equal numbers of boys and girls. It offers children stimulating and thorough teaching and a wide range of opportunities, academic, artistic and sporting, in a pleasant, homely atmosphere in which they feel valued and supported.

The School has a dedicated teaching staff and a culture of warmth and politeness. Its strong pastoral system emphasises kindness and respect for others and the children are consistently encouraged to develop their own particular talents and interests.

The School is non-selective and its adaptable teaching methods allow all its pupils to reach the best possible academic standards and to acquire a perceptive and discriminating approach to their studies.

The School is proud of its strong academic record and we are keen to give our pupils every opportunity to develop their ideas boldly and to excel.

The Nursery Schools

The Roche School Nurseries are at 11 Frogmore, Wandsworth SW18 1HW and 42 Keswick Road, East Putney SW15 2JE. They offer a lively Montessori-based education to children aged 2 to 4 years. Details are given in the Nursery Schools Prospectus for which please telephone 020 8704 4857 or e-mail: admissions@the rocheschool.co.uk

Admissions

Children join the Reception classes in the first September after their 4th birthday. Older candidates are assessed in reading, writing and number work with regard to their potential as much as their technical knowledge since our adaptable teaching methods allow all our pupils to make good progress. Visitors may see the School on our Open Mornings or by individual appointment - telephone 0208 877 0823 or e-mail: admissions@therocheschool.co.uk

Examinations

Success in examinations comes through good, clear teaching so that pupils can take an interest in the subject for its own sake and learn from their mistakes. Having a good grasp of the main principles involved gives them the confidence to consider each question carefully and to answer it effectively. Apart from the examination subjects, the children encounter a wide range of other disciplines and opportunities throughout the week so that they can see examinations in perspective among other worthwhile aims.

STEM Week – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths at The Roche School

The week commencing 3rd October will be STEM Week at The Roche School, based around the theme of Water. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, so the week will involve many exciting experiments, challenges and construction activities. On  Monday 3rd October, STEM Week will be kicked off by a special whole school assembly centred on the theme of ‘Water’, led by a special guest…Science Man. Throughout the day every class will have a workshop looking at the importance of water, uses of water and water experiments. On Tuesday 4th October we will be holding a whole school ‘Times Tables Challenge’, where every child will compete (with differentiated tables) to gain as many points for their house as possible. Good luck! On Thursday 6th October, The STEM team at school will lead an interactive assembly and award prizes won during the weeks’ challenges.
