The sun shone on The Roche School for our annual Sports Day held at Barn Elms. Lower School turned up bright and early for their class sprint, followed by an entertaining fun race and house relay. We also enjoyed the Toddler Race featuring a range of talented sibling tots. Upper School began with the traditional tug-of-war before moving through their races where we were treated to some impressive performances.
Alongside this, Roche School mums good-naturedly took part in their own house relays whilst dads battled tooth and nail in the tug-of-war. The mums then took the issue of gender bias into their own hands by insisting on a tug-of-war of their own. Noted for next year!
The day finished with prize giving and we took the chance to thank our hard-working FORS parents with champagne and flowers. Their support is much appreciated.
As with all aspects of life at The Roche School, we value the effort that pupils put into the day as well as their skill and athletic prowess. Whilst Sports Day showcases talent in a competitive sense, it is also an opportunity to reiterate the importance of team spirit and support for others.
One parent commented, “Many of us have taken the day off work to be here and it is lovely to be in the sunshine, catching up with each other and watching our children enjoy sport so positively”. Events were rounded off with a picnic.
