Gifted and Talented
At the Roche School we understand that ability and talent are not fixed entities in children and that through effort, inspiration, practise and great teaching, pupils can move to higher levels of competence in any given discipline.
At any one time children will be at different levels of attainment and the curriculum, and the setting system is focused on enriching and extending children based on their current ability.
For children who are exceeding age-related expectations we offer enrichment opportunities both within and outside the classroom. In class, teachers use problem solving, philosophical enquiry, open questions and self-evaluation to deepen children’s learning. All children participate in a Question wall which offers the opportunity for pupils to challenge their thinking. Outside the class, we participate in external competitions such as Maths challenges, robotics competitions and debating in conjunction with other borough schools. We also run a Battle of the Books for able readers across The London Borough of Wandsworth.
