The 3rd Roche School Girls’ Football Festival took place on Friday 15th March 2019 in Wandsworth Park. Organised by Miss Allana and her Ace Development Academy, it was a fantastic afternoon with 140 girls from public and state schools taking part.
“My idea is to create an event that increases participation and gets more girls playing the sport,” says Miss Allana. “Having a festival instead of a tournament eliminates the focus on scores and places an emphasis on skills and teamwork. It has been great to see more schools taking part each year. The feedback is always positive and the event facilitates the creation of firm links with other schools in both the state and private sector. The number of girls participating has increased again this year. Festivals such as this one permit players to just have fun which should be the main focus of any sport.”
This year’s festival was supported by the Walton Casuals Academy players and gave the girls a chance to meet head coach Kelly-Jade Whelan who shared her inspirational football journey. Every player received a certificate and medal and there were some individual awards for stand-out performances. We look forward to next year!
Thank you to the participating schools: The Roche School; Rutherford House; Eveline Day School, Parsons Green; Southbank International; Eaton Square; Wandsworth Prep; Honeywell.
