Cranleigh Football Festival

On the 25th September 2015 a selection of Year 3 and 4 pupils took part in a football festival at Cranleigh Preparatory School. This football festival was in association with Chelsea FC Foundation in which 16 school teams took part.

The day started with a talk from ex Chelsea defender Graeme le Saux where he introduced the tournament, talked about his influences and career and finished with a question and answer session for pupils and staff  attending the tournament.

BBQ lunch  followed,  where  pupils tucked into some protein and carbohydrates ready for their first game of the festival. The excitement and anticipation was strong.

After a brief warm up and some ball confidence activities the footballers were ready to start round 1. In round 1 The Roche played Park Mead, Finton House and Cranleigh Prep.

After a draw, a loss and a win The Roche was ready for Round 2 where we faced another three tough teams.

We had warmed to the standard of the day by this time and we went on to win two games comfortably and drawing one.

The day also included some technical workshops with Chelsea FC Coaches where the pupils were challenged to show off their footballing skills and confidence. The coaches praised the pupils greatly for their efforts and highlighted they were some of the best of the festival.

The day finished with a prize giving in which each pupil received a medal of participation as well as a Chelsea FC gift. The Roche School also celebrated the achievements of one pupil who was highlighted as a player of the festival from the Chelsea FC coaches.

The pupils represented the school exceptionally well and played some great football. We hope to return next year.
