Our school is committed to Sustainable Travel, and we have recently earned Bronze level accreditation for our School Travel Plan . It is an ongoing document which enables us to look at how children and staff travel to and from school, and the safety and environmental effect of these journeys
We focus on the following issues:
Road safety
We take part in Road Safety week in November. Children learn about road safety in PSHE lessons, and have a talk from a local police officer. We also held a Bright Day on 20th November to raise money for the charity Brake who help the families and victims of road accidents.
Walk to school week
This is during May and we take part in a whole school competition to see which class earns the most points for walking, cycling, scooting, lift-sharing. The winning class wins Maurice the cuddly Meerkat.
Walk Once a Week
This takes place all year round- children earn badges if they walk, cycle or scoot to school at least once a week for each half term.
Car share lift scheme
Parents sign up here for free to our online lift share scheme to enable them to locate other parents living near them, and get them into contact with each other. Our aim is to ease congestion and to benefit people’s health and the environment.
Cycling Training
Year 5 and 6 receive cycle training every summer term.
Scooter Training
Year 1 children took part in Scooter training last term, to help them enjoy scooting more safely.
