2021 Spring Term Archive: Years 5 & 6 Library Sessions

The theme for this week's Year 5 and 6 Library Session is 'Runners'. Mrs Melanie reads excerpts from: Ghost by Jason Reynolds published by Knights Of and Armistice Runner by Tom Palmer published by Conkers.

This week's Year 5 and 6 Library Session is called 'Do you believe in ghosts?' Mrs Melanie reads extracts from Seaglass by Eloise Williams published by Firefly and The Glass Children by Kristina Ohlsson published by Jonathan Cape.

The theme for this week's Year 5 and 6 Library Session is 'Dark Humour'. Mrs Melanie has selected the following books on this topic: 'The Thornthwaite Inheritance' by Gareth P.Jones published by Bloomsbury; 'King Bones' by Chris Hallatt Wells published by Everything With Words.

The theme for this Year 5 & 6 Library Session is 'Being Different featuring 'Can You See Me?' by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott published by Scholastic; 'Check Mates' by Stewart Foster published by Simon and Schuster.

This week's Year 5 and 6 Library Session with Mrs Melanie features 'Scary Short Stories'; 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl in a collection published by Longman; 3 stories from 'Short: A book of very short stories' by Kevin Croslley-Holland and published by Oxford.

This week's Year 5 & 6 Library Session with Mrs Melanie features two narrative poems; 'Cloud Busting' by Malorie Blackman published by Corgi; 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes published by Oxford University Press.

The theme of this week's Library Session for Year 5 & 6 is 'Books about Books' and these are the two books: 'A Library of Lemons' by Jo Cotterill published by Picadilly Press; 'Pages and Co: Tilly and the Book Wanderers' by Anna James published by HarperCollins.

2020 Archive: Years 5 & 6 Library Sessions

Mrs Melanie introduces three classics with a modern retelling for each one. In this edition she looks at Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre with a simplified re-telling by Tanya Landman,: Pride and Prejuduce by Jane Austen accompanied by Lydia, The Wild Girl of Pride and Prejudice by Natasha Farrant and finally Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle alongside Young Sherlock - Death Cloud by Andrew Lane.

For this week's Year 5 and 6 Library session Mrs Melanie reads from three Science Fiction books: 'Mortal Engines' by Philip Reeve published by Scholastic; 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury published by Harper Collins; 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' by Douglas Adams published by Masterworks.

This week Mrs Melanie has selected three novels with first person narratives: 'Wonder' by RJ Placios published by Corgi; 'Once' by Morris Gleitzman published by Puffin; 'Hetty Feather' by Jacqueline Wilson published by Corgi.

Scary stories in this week's Year 5 & 6 Library Session with Mrs Melanie: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schawb published Scholastic; Tom's Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce published by Oxford; Thirteen Chairs by Dave Shelton published by David Fickling Books.

Villains are featured in this Week 6 edition of Years 5 & & Library Session with Mrs Melanie: 'A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning' by Lemony Snicket published by Egmont;  'His Dark Materials' by Philip Pullman published by Everyman; 'The Last Wild' by Piers Torday published by Quercus; 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' by J.K. Rowling published by Bloomsbury; 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' by Conan Doyle and 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker both published by Penguin.

Classic Adventure Stories are featured in this Week 7 edition of Years 5 & & Library Session with Mrs Melanie. 'The Three Musketeers' by Alexandre Dumas published by Puffin Classics. 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' by Jules Verne published by Puffin Classics. 'Moonfleet' by J. Meade Faulkner published by Penguin Popular Classics.

War and Conflict Stories are featured in this Week 8 edition of Years 5 & & Library Session with Mrs Melanie: 'When Hitler Stole Rabbit' by Judith Kerr by Essential Modern Classics. 'All Quiet on the Western Front' by Erich Maria Remarque published by Vintage.
