Our Ethos

The Roche Approach

Our ethos is framed by The Roche Approach. This is a point of reference for every member of our school community: it’s how we spell out our approach to personal growth, learning, relationships and academic challenge. Respect, Open-mindedness, Compassion, Humour and Effort are the five pillars of The Roche Approach and each and every one of us strives to embody these principles in the classroom and beyond.

A global family

At The Roche School, we see ourselves as part of a global family, proud to embrace a rich diversity of languages and cultures which is truly reflective of London, a leading world city with a distinctly international identity.  In 2025, our school was honoured to receive the British Council International School Award and we have the distinction of being the only primary school in London with a particular focus on Spanish language and learning. This commitment to bilingual learning and engagement with the wider world is an example of the Roche Approach principle of Open-mindedness in action.

A forest school experience in London

Our pupils enjoy visiting London’s world-class museums, galleries and historic sites, but our situation here in Wandsworth also allows for ready access to London’s phenomenal green spaces.  Our children have the advantage of participating in regular Forest School lessons held in beautiful Wimbledon Common and in Richmond Park, a stunning national nature reserve. Lessons which foster a deeper connection with the natural world are just one expression of our commitment to the Roche Approach principles of Respect and Compassion.

A Montessori-style approach to learning in the early years

Children in our Nursery and Reception classes benefit from a careful balance of Montessori-style teaching and learning integrated with the National Curriculum for the Early Years and Foundation Stage.  Free-flow, play-based learning is thoughtfully combined with engaging discrete teaching sessions led by our highly experienced teaching team.

The very best way to get a feel for who we are and what we offer is to come along to see us: our main school and nursery are based in the heart of Wandsworth and we have an additional nursery hub just a few minutes’ walk from here.
