EAL
Our dedicated EAL team – Denise, Fi and Annelies – work closely with pupils, families and class teachers to support each child’s individual language journey. Through a combination of in-class support, small group work and targeted interventions, they help pupils develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The team also plays an important role in helping children feel settled, included and able to participate fully in all aspects of school life. By working alongside subject teachers across the curriculum, they ensure that language development is integrated into everyday learning, helping pupils to grow in confidence both academically and socially.
Our approach is centred on helping every child feel supported, confident and able to thrive within the school community. We provide support tailored to each child’s level of English and individual needs through integrated in-class and small group support designed to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. By fostering close collaboration between the EAL team and class teachers across all curriculum areas, we deliver targeted support with academic language and vocabulary to help pupils access the curriculum with confidence. We cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment where multilingualism and cultural diversity are valued, utilizing activities specifically designed to build confidence, encourage participation, and develop essential communication skills.
Furthermore, we maintain regular monitoring of progress to ensure pupils continue to thrive academically and socially, offering direct support for children settling into a new school or English-speaking environment. Finally, we provide continuous guidance for families alongside careful preparation for transition to secondary school, maintaining a strong focus on helping every child feel confident, capable, and fully part of the school community
