Reading Lists
The Roche School is a book-loving school and we seek to foster a love of books and reading across the school community. Celebrations like World Book Day, Poetry Week and Shakespeare Week are just the highlights of the academic year: the real joy comes from the everyday love of reading which is supported by regular reading habits both at school and at home.
Parents play an essential role in encouraging children to enjoy books and reading at home and it is never too young to start. Your child will take great pleasure from sharing books with you long before he or she is able to read independently. Reading to your child, reading with your child, listening to your child read and even reading alongside your child are all tremendously positive habits which help to build strong family bonds and establish what will hopefully become a lifelong love of reading.
Our reading lists are a great starting point if you are unsure which books to read at home. They are carefully compiled by our reading experts and they include high quality classic and contemporary texts which reflect the wonderful diversity of our school community. From picture books to graphic novels, poetry anthologies to non-fiction texts – there is something here for everyone to enjoy!
