Our History

1983

Mrs Roche’s Coaching Establishment was founded and welcomed five children to the home of Dr and Mrs Roche in West Kensington. Mrs Roche had an academic background in literature and languages and set out the founding principle of offering a ‘thorough education in a homely environment’. Morning lessons were followed by swimming, Art, cultural excursions and even ice-skating.

1988

Mrs Roche’s school was popular, with pupils winning places at some of London’s top senior schools and the school roll quickly expanded. This prompted a move to its current location in Wandsworth, where it officially became The Roche School. Dr Roche joined the teaching staff, bringing with him a love of Maths and Science. Excursions to the ice-rink were replaced with roller-skates in the playground. Indeed, pupils briefly campaigned to be allowed to wear their roller skates all day long.

2022

The Roche School now boasted a roll of over 200 pupils aged 2 to 11 and was firmly established in the Southwest London independent schools sector. September 2022 saw the introduction of an optional Spanish immersive stream running alongside the traditional English language curriculum. While English and Maths were still taught in English, pupils opting to explore bilingual learning were now able to enjoy learning History, Geography, Science, Religious Studies, Sport and more through the medium of Spanish.
