Dear Parents,

I hope you have been enjoying the glorious spring weather. It feels like winter is truly behind us!

After their triumphant performance at The Exchange Theatre, Twickenham, our Year 5 Shakespeare Club performed to the whole school this morning in assembly. Their performance of The Tempest was truly impressive combining powerful acting, music and wonderful costumes to bring the story to life. Thanks go again to Mrs Melanie for her inspirational work with both Year 5 and Year 6 Shakespeare clubs.

This week, on Monday we had a fascinating talk from Muslima, a Year 5 parent, on celebrating Eid. The children had lots of interesting questions and were thoroughly engaged. We wish all our families celebrating the festival, Eid Mubarak.

Also on Monday, Year 6 visited the Houses of Parliament. They took part in a guided tour of the Houses of Commons and Lords, including the voting corridors, and learned about how a bill becomes law. The children also developed their understanding of democracy, including how we vote and the role of MPs in representing the public. The children were particularly interested in exploring the historic Westminster Hall, discovering the rich history of the Palace of Westminster, and viewing portraits of notable figures such as Henry VIII. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring their learning to life.

Our Nursery Mothers’ Day celebration was a wonderful success where the children enjoyed a special morning in nursery with their mummys. They decorated photo frames together to take home as a lasting keepsake and delighted everyone by performing two songs for their mummies. The highlight of the morning was a heartfelt video featuring messages of love from the children; it was an emotional moment for all.

On Wednesday, the Spring Concert brought together our choirs, orchestra and other performers in an energetic and beautifully performed show. Thanks to Katie and Gunther as ever.

Also on Wednesday, Reception had a lovely time at the local library looking at non-fiction and story books on Antarctica linked to their class book.

SPORTS

On Monday, our Year 3s and 4s played against Parsons Green. All three teams won their matches. On Tuesday, they played against Kew College. Two teams drew and one team lost. Well done to our Tigers team who drew 12-12 In a very close game.

BIG NEWS!!! Winners 🏆 🏆

Well done to our Year 5 and 6 girls who participated in the London Youth Games. We are officially the champions and won gold at the event on Thursday! This means we are officially the best netball team in London! This is an incredible achievement, and we are so proud of the team and our incredible coaches, particularly Miss Maria and Mrs Susie, for helping our girls achieve this monumental victory. Well done all, we are bursting with pride!

Contact Tyrone at roche.t.pugh@therocheschool.com to sign up for the parent football and netball competition on 24th April.

NEXT WEEK

We wish all our skiers on the Year 5 and 6 trip a wonderful time on the slopes!

On Monday, Reception will be visiting Wandsworth Park to see the heavy horses in action cutting the grass. Meanwhile, our next tours for prospective parents take place 9.30-10.30am on that day. Places can be booked via The Roche School and Nursery – Visit Us

On Tuesday, Reception and both our nurseries are off to The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell Forest. Early Years children learn greatly through play and the Discovery Centre offers playful experiences and stimulating environments to help the children explore, make sense of the world and problem solve.

On Wednesday 8.50am to 9.20am, Mrs Gina will be giving a Zoom talk to Year 4 parents on an introduction to the 11+. The usual Zoom link has been sent out via email.

That evening, we’ll be riding through the glen with Robin Hood and his merry band as the Year 4 production comes to town. With Mrs Anto and Mr Matthew at the helm, it’s guaranteed to be a hoot!

On Thursday 8.15am to 9am, Señora Vanessa will be leading our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion coffee morning in her classroom discussing our plans for Heritage Day, a whole school celebration of our heritage and culture (which will take place on Tuesday 12th May). There will also be the opportunity to meet our new member of the school Advisory Board for EDI, Allana Ashmeil.

The last day of term sees our annual celebration of spring with the Easter bonnet assembly. Thank you to FORS for providing the prizes for the competition for best bonnet in each class. We encourage hats to be as disposable and eco-friendly as possible.

FORS

It has been a fun-filled FORS term: the coffee van morning, the FORS school disco, the Quiz/Curry night; the Silent Auction and the uniform sale – thank you for all your support!

All your contributions have been well spent on STEM workshops, a very special visit by author SF Said on World Book Day, and charity donations.

We also wanted to say a BIG thank you to everyone who helped make the Quiz Night such a success, and first and foremost thanks to our quiz master extraordinaire James, the fantastic bartenders Tom and Jan, and Al for sorting the sweet bags. And further thanks to Year 5 and 6 children and Mr Luis who brought the chairs up to the hall. A real team effort!
