Dear Parents,

This week, we were delighted to welcome back María Luisa Martínez from the Spanish Embassy. She spent time seeing how the children are progressing in their Spanish learning and was extremely impressed by the high standard of Spanish writing in their books, including the Year 2 and 3 pen pal letters. María Luisa also led a wonderful Lower School assembly, sharing insights into what a typical school day looks like in Spain. The assembly ended on a joyful note, with María Luisa singing and playing the ukulele alongside the children. We are so pleased to see our relationship with the Spanish Embassy continuing to grow and blossom.

Also this week, Reception had a wonderful time at the Polka Theatre and Year 5 have gone for a visit to Holy Trinity church in Roehampton today for their Christianity topic.

Today’s assembly was led by Sharon Miller who spoke to the children about the fascinating Jewish festival of Tu B’Shevat, the festival of the ‘birthday of trees’.

NEXT WEEK

The children have auditioned and those chosen to perform are getting ready for the hotly anticipated Roche School Talent Shows! Cheesy jokes, hula hoops and magic tricks I am sure will be in abundance. Good luck everyone! Lower School’s show takes place on Tuesday at 9am and Upper School on Friday at 9am. Although parents are not able to attend in person, we are pleased to share that a recording will be available to purchase, with all proceeds going to charity.

On Tuesday 27th January, we have our next Roche Tots event. This time it is a Spanish Taster for 4s and under taking place at 9.30am in the Nursery, bookable at this link The Roche School – Visit Us

On Wednesday 28th January, 8.50am till 9.20am, our next Zoom parent talk will be hosted by Mr Lee and Ms Anto on the Roche Approach and Behaviour Management. They will share how our values are embedded in the children’s learning and how the school supports positive behaviour throughout. How this can be linked to home life and behaviour outside school will also be addressed. The talk will be on the usual link sent in a separate email.

Wednesday will be International LEGO Day. The day will be an opportunity for students to use LEGO in a variety of educational ways. They will explore science, mathematics, engineering and storytelling while building, collaborating and developing problem-solving and creativity.

Also on Wednesday, Miss Lydia and the Community and Fundraising Year 6 team will be running a Second Hand Toy Stall from 3pm till 4.30pm. Children are invited to bring in their old toys to then be resold. All funding will be going to the Makimei Children’s Home in Kenya.

On Friday, our next Little Village Collection takes place. The charity is particularly short of shoes at the moment. Any pre-loved shoes would be great, especially those suitable for winter, including wellies.

HOUSE CHARITY NEWS

Message from Regenerate

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much to The Roche School and yourselves for choosing Regenerate as your charity partner this year! We’re so pleased to have your support in creating opportunities for local young people to thrive.

Regenerate was born in 2000, from a love for our community on the Alton housing estate in Roehampton. Ever since, we’ve been providing safe spaces and support for young people throughout Wandsworth. We work primarily with young people aged 11-25 who are facing barriers such as poor mental health, poverty, trauma, and the significant effects of these. Our dedicated team get to know each young person as an individual, and uncover their potential through our 3 services:

Youth Clubs as well as life changing trips and adventure challenges

1-1 bespoke mentoring support

Employment and training through our social enterprise Feel Good Coffee

Every year, we have to raise 100% of our costs ourselves, and so we couldn’t do this work without the support of generous people like yourselves. We’re so excited to see where our partnership with The Roche School will take us, and are looking forward to all the exciting things planned for the rest of the year! If you’d like to know more, you can visit our website: regenerate-london.org

We’d also love to welcome you at one of our Feel Good branches soon:

On the evening of Wednesday 11th March from 6pm, we will be hosting a Schools Fair showcasing the secondary school options available to our parents. This will be open to parents from Year 2 to Year 5.

We have some exciting half-term holiday camps on offer including our very first Nursery camp! On Monday 16th February, 9.30am to 3.30pm, Miss Marcia, Miss Willow and Sñra Alba will be running a Nursery holiday camp full of engaging activities and fun games (£65 per child 3+). This camp is bookable direct with Miss Gabriella via email: roche.g.emery@therocheschool.com

On Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th February, Miss Marcia and Miss Karen will be running an Arts and Craft Holiday Camp, 8.30am-5.30pm each day (£60 per child, Reception to Year 6). These are bookable on School Cloud now.

Finally, congratulations go to Dr Alex who has had his recent Cosmology research paper published in an important journal. His research is the beginnings of investigating structure formation in an expanding, rotating universe. Big stuff!
