Dear Parents,

The talent shows this week were a wonderful celebration of our children’s many talents and creativity. We were treated to an amazing variety of performances — from gymnastics and dancing to jokes, a brilliantly mimed rocket launch, and even a magic trick involving a hair dryer and a flying ball! A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a heartfelt thank you to our Heads of House for organising such a joyful and memorable event.

Our Spanish taster session for under-4s was a great success on Tuesday and a real joy to be part of. Sñr Victor brought The Gruffalo to life with a delightful Spanish retelling, complete with puppets and actions that captivated the children. Our next Head’s tour for prospective parents takes place on Wednesday 11th February bookable at the following link: The Roche School – Visit Us

On Wednesday, the children enjoyed celebrating International LEGO Day by using LEGO in a range of creative and educational ways. Year 3 incorporated LEGO into their maths lessons, estimating and measuring their own constructions, while Reception created rooftop gardens inspired by their class book Errol’s Garden. Year 2 also used LEGO in maths to help calculate sums, and in the Room at The Roche, LEGO Therapy supported children in building friendships and developing social skills.

NEXT WEEK

On Tuesday 3rd February, 8.50-9.20am, our next parent talk on Zoom will be given by Sñr Victor on our Forest School provision. Victor will explain the benefits of outdoor learning and how the forest school curriculum is developed to be educational whilst also lots of fun! If you have missed any of our recent talks they can be caught up on via this link.

On Wednesday, Reception go on a trip to Wandsworth Library with a focus on books about gardening and growing plants, linked to their current topic.

On Thursday evening at 5.30pm, Year 2 have their big show, ‘Rock Pool’. Two rock n’ roll crabs are helped by their friends to join the starfish band learning about kindness and working together. It sounds like it will be a hoot!

On Friday 6th, Year 5 will be taking to the hall stage for their year group assembly. This year it is on Christianity and big questions. I am sure they will get us all thinking.

SPORTS REPORT

Year 3 and 4 hockey vs Dolphin School: last week we participated in a friendly fixture against Dolphin School. Both teams played well with one team drawing 2-2 and the other narrowly losing 2-1.

Year 3 and 4 girls, Dolphin School hockey tournament: the girls won the tournament winning 3 of their group matches and drawing 2. They then won the semi-final and the final 1-0 against Eaton House. Well done!

ISA Indoor Athletics: Year 5 and 6 competed in an indoor Athletics event against 8 local Wandsworth schools. We were placed 1st on the day (waiting for the overall Borough results). An amazing achievement!

U11 Newland House Netball Tournament: on the weekend, we participated in an U11 Netball Tournament at Newland House. With 9 other schools we managed to end up in 3rd place. A brilliant result despite numerous injuries and sicknesses.
