Nursery Curriculum
Early years learning at The Roche School is in line with the national Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and further enriched by thoughtful integration of the Montessori Approach.
We are proud of our strong academic record and our Nursery pupils work towards and often beyond the Government’s Early Learning Goals through a combination of free-flow, play-based learning and engaging and specific teaching sessions. We track and observe each child’s progress closely and introduce reading books as soon as children are ready. Numbers, counting and the foundations of Maths are explored using tactile, practical resources which ensures that every child is engaged and challenged.
We have Forest School trained teachers in both Nurseries, offering high quality outdoor learning opportunities, and all Nursery pupils enjoy an early introduction to Spanish. Nursery pupils at our main school further benefit from expert teaching in Music and Physical Education.
Each child’s learning journey is unique and shared with parents in a variety of ways. An online learning journal called Tapestry enables parents to view photographs and observations of their child along with positive and informative teacher comments. Using a range of tracking and assessment methods, we ensure that each child makes excellent progress and works to his or her full potential.
