Sport

Our ethos

We aim to create a kind, encouraging and joyful environment that motivates children to be active at the level that’s right for them.

We recognise that every child is different, and our priority is to nurture a lifelong love and enjoyment of sport. Our commitment to sport is evidenced by our large team of specialist sports teachers – eight in all – and our sport-centred afternoon timetable.

Sport in the park

Roche School pupils have the pleasure of exercise and physical activity in the beautiful green spaces of Wandsworth Park, just a stone’s throw from our school. Thrice weekly park sessions for older pupils (twice weekly sessions for younger pupils) are complemented by a lively weekly gym session. We offer pupils the opportunity to practise core skills such as running, throwing, bouncing, catching, striking and team-work. Termly rotation enable pupils the chance to enjoy:

  • Netball
  • Hockey
  • Rugby
  • Athletics
  • Cricket

All of this is under the expert guidance of our specialist coaches. These sports are open to boys and girls equally and we aim to ensure that every child finds joy and confidence in some form of physical activity.

Clubs and trips

In addition to this extensive curricular offering, we are proud to offer additional sports and activities as part of a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs.  These include:

  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Football
  • Climbing
  • Parkour
  • Table tennis
  • Yoga
  • Dance
  • Ballet

In addition to clubs, some of our residential trips present new and exciting sporting opportunities. Our annual ski trip to Les Deux Alpes, for example, is a thrilling highlight of the Spring Term for pupils in Years 5 and 6.

“My teacher encouraged me to try hockey and I found out that it was the sport for me.  She believed in me and I even got to take part in a tournament.” Pupil
“My ethos is simple: I want every child to be active and participate. I aim to ensure every child finds joy and confidence in some form of physical activity -whether that is in competitive sports, or in a social setting.” Mr Tyrone, Head of Sport
