Dear parents,

This week has been assessment week and the children have been working their hardest in these papers. Parents will be getting a report at the end of term but also parents evenings in the week of 16th March to discuss their child’s progress so far in the year. We take a comprehensive look at your child’s development not only from summative data but how they have working on an ongoing basis in classes.

In addition to getting their heads down in the tests, a number of year groups have had some fun and enriching trips in London linked to their learning. On Tuesday, Year 6 went to The Ragged School Museum to discover what it was like to be a pupil in the Victorian times. They experienced a real lesson in a 19th century schoolroom complete with a very strict teacher! Also on Tuesday, Year 2 visited the local Sikh Gurdwara. They were warmly hosted and found out about the significance of elements of the Sikh faith.

On Wednesday, Year 4 visited the Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon to find out about the Thai Buddhist tradition from the monks there. It really is a beautiful and tranquil setting. Lower School had a Lunar New Year crafts morning also on Wednesday thanks to parents who came in to lead the learning. The children did craft activities linked to the Year of the Horse and other symbols related to the festival.

Today, Mr Gilbert led an assembly on The Beatles. The children found out about how The Beatles changed the face of music and also sang three Beatles classics that have become a regular part of assembly: Let it Be, Across the Universe and Hey Jude. Fab!

SPORTS

Hockey vs Hurlingham

Well done to all our hockey players this week.

*Year 3s and 4s:* 3 of our 4 teams won their matches against Hurlingham, showing great teamwork and skill. A shout out to the Tigers team who won their match 14 – 0.

*Year 5&6:* Well done to our seniors who played in a tough fixture. We won 1 match and lost 3.

NEXT WEEK

Next week, Lunar New Year celebrations continue with cake sales on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3pm till 4.15pm on the ramp. Please bring in your cake donations next week and all proceeds will go to our charities, Regenerate and Makimei Children’s Home.

On Tuesday 3rd March at 8.15am in the OT room on the first floor, Mrs Louise will be hosting a Learning Support Coffee morning. Parents are welcome to come for a cuppa and a chat.

On Thursday 5th March, Early Years children will be celebrating Holi. The coloured paint throwing will take place along the ramp with the children bringing in a white T-shirt to get splattered. Lots of messy fun!

On Friday 6th March, we celebrate World Book Day (not on Thursday like some schools). Mrs Melanie will be leading an all-star cast in assembly and children are encouraged to come as their favourite book character. In the afternoon S.F. Said author of Varjak Paw will be coming in to school to talk to Years 4,5 and 6. Varjak Paw is a wonderful book which the children read in English lessons in Year 4 all about a Mesopotamian Blue cat who has to learn to survive in a dangerous city.
