Saturday 10th October Open Morning

Dear Parents,

It was lovely to see some of you at the Spanish Immersion information and tapas event on Tuesday. We hope you found it useful and enjoyed the Spanish nibbles too!

Year 5 have been having a fantastic time in France learning some new vocabulary and enjoying the culinary delights of pain au chocolat and farmhouse bread and butter. A good proportion bravely tried snails and the Nausicaa Aquarium in Boulogne was a big hit!  This morning the children did a Supermarché sweep before heading back to the UK.

Today’s assembly was led by Kate Wiffen, Director of Teaching and Learning on the life of Wangari Maathai, Kenyan environmental activist linked to Black History Month.  Kate explained how she inspired the planting of 30 million trees and was the first black African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Parent/Teacher meeting bookings go live at 8pm tonight on School Cloud and take place the week before half term with options for online and in person.

NEXT WEEK

Individual school photographs take place on Tuesday. Please send your child in uniform with their P.E. kit in a bag if they are doing Games or Gym that day. And, of course, don’t forget big smiles!

This year we will be combining the Learning Support and EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) coffee mornings each term. Come for a chat with Mrs Louise and Snra Vanessa about inclusion, equality and diversity in the school. This will take place in the Year 5 sets room on the second floor from 8.15am on Wednesday 7th October.

Our Year 6s will be having an experience of 11+ exams recreated in our school hall on Thursday and followed by practice interviews given by parent volunteers on Friday. The children find these mocks enormously helpful as a warm up to the real thing happening in the coming months. Our philosophy is to prepare with great teaching and practice but not with pressure and by dint of that, the children do exceedingly well.

We are still looking for parent volunteers to help with our 11+ mock interviews next Friday, from 8.30–9.30am.

If you are available and would be happy to lend a hand, we would be very grateful! Please email Gina directly if you are able to help.

On Friday we look forward to our first year group assembly of the year as Year 3 take to the stage to teach us all about life in Ancient Rome. Togas and Empire building guaranteed!
