Roche TV

The Great Roche School Remote Education Experience is well underway! In addition to the live lessons, the school is providing daily recorded video clips including sports challenges, weekly library sessions, readings and remote assemblies. Deputy Head Mr Gilbert explains, “The library slots feature members of staff reading selections from a variety of children’s books and providing some questions and opportunity for thinking around the stories. The assemblies feature our senior teachers delivering content linked to topical events such as St George’s Day, Shakespeare’s birthday and VE day combined with music and clips related to the school.”

Mrs Adams’ assembly launched this extraordinary Summer term with a moving message and an emotional performance of the song Shallow by the school choir that bought tears to our eyes. Mr Gilbert’s assembly this week focused on St George’s Day and included a fun quiz and a cameo appearance from Dr Roche. Next week Mr Lee will host the remote assembly and he will be looking at VE Day (Friday 8th May) with a very special new performance from the Upper School Choir.

Mrs Melanie and Miss Louise have been very busy recording readings. Mrs Melanie has been serialising Doctor Dolittle and recommending some great reading ideas in her Library Sessions for year groups 3&4 and 5&6. Miss Louise has been getting into the spirit of her books for the younger years by dressing up as Wonky Donkey, Burglar Bill and a witch!

The Sports Department headed by Mr Pete have been setting three daily sports challenges to keep everyone fit and having a lot of fun at the same time. Many of our own pupils have been sending videos of their efforts via the Sport Twitter feed. Today (Friday 1st May) the sports team launched The Roche School’s own Dizzy Challenge, with each of the sports teachers trying it out with hilarious results. We look forward to seeing your attempts and will compile them into a new video clip.

With all of this great video content helping us stay closer in these days of social distancing, perhaps we should launch our own Roche TV channel! Keep an eye on our Remote Learning section of this website for new daily video clips and the latest updates to our remote learning curriculum and timetables.
