Kindled Flames

As the new term begins, we wish happiness and success to our Year 6 leavers.

We were delighted to see the photos of them in their new uniforms come flooding in!

They move on to a wide range of senior schools (click to see leavers map) and are full of confidence and courage. COVID-19 has not dented their enthusiasm for adventure and a fresh start! As they move through their senior schools, we always encourage them to stay in touch with us, sharing their stories and successes and maintaining old friendships. Quite a few of them come back to work with us – some volunteering where they can – and with others working their GAP years with us.

Many alumni go on to develop interesting and successful careers. Take, for example, Isabel Hines, (class of 2008) now returning as a Reception teacher for this academic year. Welcome back!

We also celebrated the success of ex-Head Girl Claudia Hill who has gained her PHd in “Investigation of Strategies to enhance the delivery of oncolytic vaccinia virus” after attending Oxford. Claudia is now off to Harvard. Wherever they go and whatever they do we subscribe to Socrates’ view that Education is “the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel”. It is passion and motivation that lights the flame and we have lots of it here at The Roche School as can be seen by their successes in later life.
