Fantastique France

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastique trip to France this year, and they had the most amazing time! They stayed in the Chateau d’Ebblinghem near Boulogne, immersing themselves in French culture over three days, and enthusiastically practising the language at every opportunity.

First stop after the ferry ride was Nausicaa Sealife Museum, the biggest aquarium in Europe. The pupils loved seeing a variety of animals including crocodiles, sea lions and even sharks. After a three-course dinner with French delicacies, they learned how to make traditional crêpes.

The next day, the French immersion continued. The children had a lot of fun in the local boulangerie, where they were shown how bread is made (tout en français, bien sûr!). A highlight for many of the pupils was a visit to a snail farm, where they could touch and taste les escargots.

In the Chocolaterie de Beussent, the children saw how chocolate bonbons are made. Before returning to Folkestone, they visited Auchan, the French hypermarket, where the children were able to practise their French even more during a treasure hunt, and when buying souvenirs. The children returned home delighted and with many happy memories.
