Shakespeare Festival

A group of twenty Year 5 pupils performed at the Rose Theatre, Kingston, on Tuesday 1st February. They performed an abridged version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in the theatre alongside three other schools as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Coram SSF is a charity which allows young people from across the UK to perform in theatres. It is the world’s largest youth drama festival and every year thousands of students take part. The school has been involved in this festival on three previous occasions, as it is a great opportunity for the students to gain confidence and develop a love of Shakespeare.

The cast of Year 5s started rehearsing in the Autumn Term, attending an after-school club as well as taking part in a workshop run by a professional actor. All of them brought real energy and enthusiasm to the project, preformed brilliantly on the night and were incredibly proud of what they had achieved. For a group of young students, they delivered their lines with clarity and showed that they had a real appreciation of Shakespearean language.
