Year 6 Art Exhibition

An art exhibition by our Year 6 students was launched at the Maestro Arts Gallery on Tuesday 15th May, and the opening was very well attended.

To promote independent thinking and creativity within a structured framework, our art teachers Susie and Bayly set up a still life at the beginning of the Autumn Term which the children draw from over a couple of weeks. According to the drawings they produce and their wider interests, they are each assigned an artist to look at in depth, culminating in a presentation to the class. At this point, the children start sketching out ideas for an individual work that is inspired by the artist that they have investigated. It can be traditional or in any medium.

The exhibition on at the moment is the climax of two terms of hard work in the art room. The children are extremely proud of their work and the exhibition, and realise how their pieces change within a gallery context.

The exhibition is on until Tuesday 5 June at the Maestro Arts Gallery, 1 Eastfields Avenue, London SW18 1FQ.
